| This Easter brought good news for families who have children starting primary school in September, with the vast majority of children offered a place at one of their top preferences.
I’m so excited to see what these young people go on to achieve, and delighted they’ll be starting their education journey in Brent.
Brent Connects is returning! We will be hosting meetings where you get the floor to tell us about the local issues that are on your mind. We believe that by working with residents, we can continue to make Brent a great borough to live and work in, and we’re open to feedback and new ideas. I’d encourage everyone to come along and join the conversation.
Last but by no means least, it has been over a week since the deeply disturbing incident in Carpender’s Park lawn Cemetery, in which Muslim graves were desecrated, mostly in the children’s section. There is no place and there should be no place for acts of hate in Brent.
Brent Council continues to work closely with the Police – both to support the families who have been affected, and to make sure that those vile individuals who desecrated the graves of the loved ones laid to rest are brought to justice. I encourage anyone who thinks they have information on this Islamophobic crime that will help the investigation to call the Police on 101.

Raising standards for renters đźŹ
|

| A consultation about proposals aimed at improving living conditions in private rented homes has been extended to 10 June!
If the proposals go forward, landlords would be required to have a licence in order to rent out a “house in multiple occupation” (HMOs) – that means, properties that are shared by three or more unrelated people, who form more than one household, and who share toilet, washing or cooking facilities.
In order to get a license, these properties would have to meet certain standards, enabling the council to carry on tackling issues like mould and damp, as well as safety.
We want to hear from everyone – whether you’re a renter, landlord, letting agent or neighbour. You are also welcome to discuss the proposals with our officers on the following dates:

Revive and Ride 🚲

| A brand-new initiative, Revive and Ride, is breathing new life into abandoned bikes in Brent by repairing and redistributing them to local faith and community groups.
The council is partnering with Peddle My Wheels to launch this exciting project, restoring forgotten bikes to promote cycling, encourage active lifestyles, reduce air pollution and tackle climate change in local communities.
